Shubin, Vladimir, Dr., is Senior Research Fellow of the Institute for African Studies in the Russian Academy of Sciences; Professor of the Faculty of History, Political Science and Law of the Russian State University for the Humanities; a member of the Russian National Committee for BRICS Studies Research Council; a member of the Expert Council of the Foreign Affairs Committee at the Federation Council of the Russian Federation. Graduated from the Moscow State Institute of International Affairs (MGIMO) in 1962. In 1962-1969, served as an officer in the Soviet armed forces. In 1969–1979, he was a Secretary of the Soviet Afro-Asian Solidarity Committee, head of the Africa section. In 1982-1991, he was Deputy Head of the Foreign Affairs Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union. In1993–2011, he taught in universities of Africa, Europe and Asia.
