In the title, itself, we have the answer, if there is some logic in what is going on that means it is good. Of course, logic in the activities of Russia but not in the situation itself. The situation is not logical at all. I am going to be brief because it is a huge region, and everything is evolvin...

Valery Fedorov: What does public opinion really say

04.07.2011

p6609_1.jpgMOSCOW, JULY 4, 2011. PIR PRESS - “The goals of modernization are well shared by citizens of Russia. However, the means of modernization are evaluated rather skeptically. Russians almost do not cherish hopes for changing their lives for the better as a result of this modernization. Modernization is an alien notion to most of Russians, people themselves are not ready to actively participate in the modernization,"- Director General of the Russian Public Opinion Research Center (Russian abbreviated name VCIOM) Valery Fedorov.

On June 30, 2011 the summer meeting of the Trialogue Club International was held, which was addressed by Valery V. Fedorov, Director General of the Russian Public Opinion Research Center (Russian abbreviated name VCIOM).

Valery Fedorov spoke about the attitude of Russian society to the problem of modernization. The presentation made by Director General of VCIOM was designed to answer two questions: what Russian society is ready for and what Russian authorities are willing to do in the context of solving the problem of country's modernization?

p6609_3.jpgAfter having identified the major issues to be solved for the success of modernization process in Russia - the fight against corruption, reform of the Interior Ministry, modernization of the economy, political and technological modernization - Valery Fedorov dwelt upon the analysis of the results of recent opinion polls, and clearly illustrated the attitude of Russian society towards the problem of modernization in the whole.

According to the Director General of VCIOM, “the goals of modernization are well shared by citizens of Russia. However, the means of modernization are evaluated rather skeptically. Russians almost do not cherish hopes for changing their lives for the better as a result of this modernization. Modernization is an alien notion to most of Russians, people themselves are not ready to actively participate in the modernization."

p6609_2.jpgResponding to the questions of the Club members, Valery Fedorov suggested that the so-called third force in Russia's social life, in addition to official authorities and opposition, "has no political dimension and political representation yet, but a demand for this force is certainly present. The characteristics of this demand are the following: the third force should not have anything to do with the current bureaucracy and its political leaders, nor the current opposition, in which nobody believes. A claim for becoming such a force was made by Mikhail Prokhorov, but I think he made this claim either too late, or too early. Still, the prototype of the third force can be seen in Prokhorov's actions", - said Valery Fedorov.
