On November 22, H.E. Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister of the Russian Federation Sergey Ryabkov took part in a meeting with the students of the International Dual-Degree MA Program Global Security, Nuclear Policy, and WMD Nonproliferation (MGIMO-MIIS-PIR Center) and PIR Center junior research fellows.

On November 18, PIR Center held the new Midweek Brainstorming session on the topic «Coalitions within the NPT Review Process: historical background and prospects of the X NPT Review Conference». Konstantin Larionov, student of the Dual Degree M.A. Program Global Security, Nuclear Policy, WMD Nonproliferation (MGIMO University, MIIS, and PIR Center) presented for further discussion his report prepared within the internship at PIR Center.

Security Index journal launch – 2007

On February 1, 2007 in Moscow a presentation of the first issue of a Russian journal on international security Security Index was held.

On the occasion of journal presentation, Sergei Ivanov, deputy chairman of the Russian Federation Government and Russian Federation minister of defense; Yury Baluevsky, chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces; Sergei Kirienko, head of the Federal Atomic Energy Agency; Vladimir Verkhovtsev, head of the Russian Ministry of Defense 12th Main Directorate; Nikolai Ponomarev-Stepnoi, vice president of the Russian Research CentreKurchatov Institute; and Anatoly Torkunov, rector of Moscow State Institute of International Relations (University) of the MFA of Russia have sent their greetings to the PIR Center. During the presentation Valentin Sobolev, deputy secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, Ervin Hofer, Ambassador of Switzerland to the Russian Federation, Anatoly Zrodnikov, director of the Institute for Physics and Power Engineering made their addresses to the readers, the editorial board of the journal and the PIR Center. Russian and foreign diplomats, governmental officials, representatives from business and academic communities and media have attended the presentation. Among them: ambassadors of Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cuba, DPRK, Finland, Germany, Israel, Romania, Tajikistan, Ukraine, and Venezuela, as well as representatives from the embassies of Azerbaijan, Belarus, Brazil, China, the Czech Republic, France, Greece, Hungary, India, Iran, Kazakhstan, Latvia, Lebanon, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Norway, Palestine, Poland,  South Africa, Spain, the UAE, the United States, representatives from the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Defense Ministry, and Federal Atomic Energy Agency, as well as from the Accounts Chamber, and the State Duma. The presentation was covered by Russian and foreign media, including news agenciesITAR-TASS, Interfax, RIA “Novosti”, newspapers Vremya Novostei, Izvestia, Kommersant, RBC Daily, TV channelsVesti-24, NHK, REN-TV etc.

On February 28, 2007, the Head of the Permanent Mission of the Russian Federation to the United Nations Office and other International Organizations Ambassador Valery Loshchinin and the President of Centre russe d'études politiques, Genève, and the Security Index editor-in-chief Dr. Vladimir A. Orlov presented the first issue of the international edition of Security Index, published in English, to public officials, diplomats, representatives of academic and business communities. The presentation was attended by diplomats (among them ambassadors from Austria, Azerbaijan, Argentine, Byelorussia, Canada, Cuba, Czech Republic, France, India, Iran, Italy, Latvia, Netherlands, Norway, Romania, Serbia, Turkey, Uzbekistan, and others), representatives of Swiss and Geneva authorities (among them Jacques Moret, mayor of Geneva, and Pierre Muller, Councilor of Geneva), businessmen (particularly Ivan Pictet, President of the Geneva Financial center), experts, media.
